Simon Wilkinson; The Prince William Lookalike

Meeting Simon in a coffee shop on a busy Saturday afternoon on Tottenham Court Road was a great and surreal experience. As his job role would suggest, he was a double take of the Prince, and a very polite gentleman. It surprised us all when we discovered he is actually Australian! He was a great interviewee and a pleasure to meet, and of course, we all got photos!

London Trip!

Over the past few days we have been organising several interviews for a trip to London. We have managed to secure an interview with a Prince William lookalike, Simon Wilkinson, who starred in the the famous t mobile advert. The advert starred an array of royal wedding lookalikes dancing down the aisle of Westminster Abbey, created a parody of the famous Royal Wedding. As well as Simon, we have an interview with the Editor of Majesty Magazine, Joe Little. The magazine, which is a monthly magazine, is dedicated to bringing Royal News from around the world. Click this link to find out more. As well as all this, we have also managed to get an interview with Rupert Adams, the publicity manager for William Hill, to talk about the weird and wonderful bets placed surrounding Royal Events, and how popular betting becomes during these times.

We also plan to talk to passers by outside Buckingham Palace. It is going to be a busy 2 days!

Mike Maloney

Our first interview for the project was in the university radio studio with Mike Maloney, a photographer who grew up in Lincolnshire. Retired from working as a fleet street photographer for The Daily Mirror, Mike has photographed many of the stars, including Paul McCartney and Michael Jackson. However, his biggest achievement is his history of regularly photographing the Queen. Mike, who has also been awarded an OBE from her Majesty, spoke to us about his career with great fondness and pride, that drew the whole team in to listen to his incredible stories!

The Idea

We originally discussed several ideas to what our documentary could be about, being given a very free and unstructured project was both liberating but challenging. We brainstormed a variety of ideas, and started to favour two; one surrounding the use languages, e.g. the differences between accents, how we write and how we speak, attitudes towards different accents etc, and the final idea we decided to run with, discussing the Royal Family. After asking several different demographics what they would prefer to hear a documentary on, The Royal Family won hands down. What the listeners want, the listeners get!
